Lake Volvi is the second largest lake in Greece. Its surface covers 68 km2 (sq km) and its maximum depth reaches 22.3 meters. It is located at the roots of the Halkidiki peninsula between the municipalities of Volvi and Lagada. Access to the lake is possible through the settlement of Mikri Vovli and the coastal baths of New Apollonia where there are homonymous Therapeutic springs. It has rich fish species in its waters, with 24 different species of fish, and is one of the 11 Greek wetlands protected by the Ramsaar Treaty.

The post-Byzantine church of Agia Marina Modi is located at 75 km of the old Thessaloniki Kavala highway. It is built at the beginning of the lush valley of the Macedonian Tempi near Lake Volvi.
